Walking around Capim Grosso... Print E-mail

As we had experienced in our first few weeks here in Brazil, we are quite easily spotted walking in the streets with our pale faces and sunburned arms. When we took our first “official walk“around Capim Grosso with two local volunteers, people smiled and looked at us curiously: we’re clearly “The Newcomers” in the town. We walked around the town to see some of the associations and people who co-operate with AEC-TEA. Along the way we passed several bars and shops on the main street of the town centre and our guides showed us also where the library is and where the mayor lives. Already, even though we have walked around the town only couple of times, people recognize us and say hello and come to talk with us. It makes you feel somehow very exotic and famous! Maybe it’s a cliché to say, but it’s true: everyone’s been really nice and friendly. Most people are openly interested in us and just come to us to have a chat. The fact that you speak hardly any portuguese doesn’t seem to bother the locals, they just keep on talking! Well, at least you can respond to them with a big smile and a thumbs-up! It seems so strange that we have arrived here what seems only few days ago, and already we see and greet our new friends on the streets of Capim Grosso.
