Noises and voices Print E-mail
Totally silent moments here in Capim Grosso are rare. Well, at least that's what I think. Just the "natural" sounds alone are much more that I have used to, for example really loud noise of insects, birds and roosters (in ungodly hours!). There's also the continuous barking and meowing somewhere in the distance and of course, the already familiar sound of mangos dropping on the roof tiles and then to the ground! But more often than you hear the clatter of hoofs on the streets you hear motorcycles and other noise made by humans. (The most annoying noise, in my opinion, is made by the cars driving around and advertising incredibly loud through gigantic speakers.) It sounds like people are driving around and honking all the time! And of course there's also shouting, whistling or singing and always music playing somewhere, no matter what time it is! It all sounds to me like a crazy mix of noises and voices, but I guess it's just a part of this town and it's culture. Now I'm getting more and more used to all the different sounds going on all the time and I'm actually beginning to like the sound of someone drumming somewhere in the distance!
