Carnaval Fever Print E-mail
There are four seasons in Finland: spring, summer, autumn and winter. We have learned that the time here in Brazil is measured differently: there is the time Before Carnival and there is the time After Carnival. Or so it seems. There is a serious Carnival Fever spreading around it has caught us too! It seems to us that the Carnival really is the high point of the whole year and it is a parto f everyone's life, though in different ways to different people. We were just amazed when we heard that some people spend the whole year preparing for the Carnival and when it is over they start immidiately plan for the next one ie. making costumes etc. The thing we do not know is how the Carnival affects the ordinary people of Capim Grosso. Is it just a way of measuring time (like for example some activities at AEC-TEA start only after Carnival) or do people have some special plans for the period? Do a lot of people go to Salvador, for example, or do they have a little Carnival of their own in Capim Grosso? That would be interesting to see...

It is just hard for us to understand that one single event can put the whole country at halt. We have nothing even close to that kind of events in Finland. We have a loto f smaller events, especially during the Summer, but they are just something you have alongside of normal, everyday-life, they do not cause a nationwide "fever". Because of this we think we have to see what's all the fuss about and go to experience this famous event for ourselves. That's why we are going to Salvador, aiming for the core of the Carnival! We are going to wear T-shirts we are going to cut, customize and decorate ourselves to fit better the festive atmosphere of the event. The scissors, bright coloured fabric paints, glitter and beads are waiting! And even though we did not plan the whole past year for the carnival, we are pretty sure we are going to have just as much fun as those who had. So have a good Carnival time everyone, however you choose to spend it! This was our last piece we wrote here. We hope that you enjoyed reading our thoughts of life here in Capim Grosso from a Finnish point of view. Thanks, and see you at AEC-TEA!
