Finns make headlines! Print E-mail
Today was an epic day in Capim Grosso. The Finnish girls made history here by mixing two types of bean in the same dish. A Brazilian lady was witness to the event as the Finnish volunteer, who can be recognised by her distinctive two-toned hair, poured the black beans into the dish which already contained white beans. Horror turned into surprise as the table of guinea-pigs were subjected to the experimentation of the crazy Finnish women and liked it. Another successful Finnish experiment.

Other news: The opening week at Aec-Tea a success! The confusion and chaos of the first week was delt with blindingly and the lessons have started on time and with much success. Along with the language classes, an intensive 4 day mask workshop took place. The mummified gesso faces of the students blossomed over the 4 days to create dramatic, theatrical and colourful masks. Not only did the students make the masks, they also had a chance to experiment with the culture and ritual of the mask. They then experimented with playing the role of the character attached to the mask. Everyone´s mask represented something different; happiness, strength, saudade (a word only found in the Portuguese dictionary, a sadness related to missing something or someone, usually related to being away from home). The final was a presentation of the photos taken during the week as well as a display of the masks. A beautiful presentation.

The two new volunteers have been drawn into the Joda and are now fully pledged capoeirists sporting the white Pit Bull t-shirts. The capoeira pants are next on the list to complete the full capoeira uniform. Three of the capoeirists should get special mention as they gave up a thriving and booming carnaval-esque party in order to show how determined and loyal they were.

Mango Juice has been replaced by Guacamole as the Avocado season commences. Some mourn the loss of the Mango while others rejoice in the change that has been long awaited.

All in all a successful week at Aec-Tea. Till next week!
