AEC-TEA gains new space and relaunches cinema! Print E-mail

FilmeAEC-TEA proudly opened the doors to its new space in the old city courthouse in March, providing the association with an additional capacity for a number of arts activities, principally cinema.  The new cinema program finally received the inauguration it deserved on March 20th, when the Brazilian film Tapete Vermelho was exhibited before a warm crowd of about 45 viewers who gave a standing ovation after the show.

The cinema program, which boasts high-quality equipment earned through a Ministry of Culture project, allows AEC-TEA to reach even more Capim Grossenses with cultural activities.  The program’s mission includes making high-quality Brazilian and lesser-known international films more accessible to viewers (in a region where Hollywood blockbusters rule), providing the best cinema ambience possible to a public that mostly has never set foot in a movie theater, and developing the habit of critical reflection over art as opposed to passive viewing. Though there is a lot of work to be done to fully meet all these goals, AEC-TEA members are excited about the potential of the project.

The building is also an excellent opportunity for dance and theater performances, as well as having plenty of wall space for photography exhibits.  Look forward to news about the latest performances taking place there!
